Today’s motivational nudge: Keep a calm center

While the new year is a time to renew and refresh, it can also be a time of stress if you’re multi-tasking more than usual.

Today’s motivational nudge: Set the intention to keep a calm center even if someone rubs you the wrong way for a short moment in time.

I like the age old advice that encourages us to be patient and not make quick decisions in stressful moments. The ability to pause, take your time and approach the situation from a place of calm and strength helps with figuring out the best way to move through a stressful time.

With all the uncertainty and angst that the pandemic has bestowed on our planet, we have an even greater need to remain resilient, strong and centered.

As so eloquently described in Oscar Wilde’s writing below, when in doubt, stay calm, have something nourishing to eat (or a muffin!) and then decide on what you need to do next.

“How you can sit there, calmly eating muffins when we are in this horrible trouble, I can’t make out. You seem to me to be perfectly heartless.

Well, I can’t eat muffins in an agitated manner. The butter would probably get on my cuffs. One should always eat muffins quite calmly. It is the only way to eat them.”

  1. Oh yeah, we always have a choice on how we respond. Perhaps my biggest intrigue is seeing how the greats have responded to their calamity, how they CHOSE to keep their calm centre, even in the face of abuse (Viktor Frankl, Nelson Mandela, Seneca). Thanks for this lovely reminder!
