I happened to talk a neighbor after a long time and unexpectedly found out that she had lost someone in her family. It was one of those moments when you get jolted back into the importance of focusing on the big things – on what’s important rather than all the busy work that can take over entire days, weeks and months.

Today’s motivational nudge is: Do the big things now.

You know, the things we all keep putting off –
>> Go for that big aspiration – that new career, that new endeavor, that thing you’ve always wanted to do
>> Reach out to the people you haven’t talked to in awhile but you’ve really wanted to get back in touch
>> Start doing all the things that loom large when you think of them but end up getting put aside for the “right time”.
Let go of the could haves, should haves and would haves and take the first steps to do it now.
In the words of Henry David Thoreau:
“If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.”
Thank you for the reminder. We lost a close friend on Thanksgiving and last night one of my daughter’s college friends committed suicide. We’re in shock. But your post is helpful to me.

I’m so sorry to hear. That is awful and must be so hard to process – so much happening at the same time. Wishing you and the families much strength and peace. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I did it. I am taking time to return to my fiction, after just working for other people this entire year. Here’s to doing the important things while we can, and thanks for this post!
