Today’s motivational nudge: Declutter any overload of information

It’s interesting how sources of information and the ways with which we can engage with different types of media have been increasing at such an accelerated pace.

If we weren’t satisfied with what we could do before, we now have the added advantage of being able to access AI tools like chatGPT.

It truly is a blessing to have access to so much information at our fingertips; however, the flip side of this is that if we aren’t intentional about creating boundaries for what we let into our lives, we may not have the energy to act on or do anything significant with the information coming our way.

Questions I think worth asking are:

Do we feel that we are more desensitized as a result of an overload of information?

Are we quickly scrolling through a large number of things or are we truly taking the time to understand, digest and appreciate what we’re consuming?

If you tend to save and bookmark any number of things to get back to later and have been finding that you haven’t gotten back to anything in awhile, this may also be a sign that you have an overload of information to deal with.

As I write this, I realize that it is important to be proactive — to curate what we let in — to take a break if it is too much — and then to clearly decide what we want to give our undivided attention to once we’re re-energized.

One newsletter or article or podcast or show can be entertaining and informative but an inbox filled with things to read, do or watch and reminders of every kind can be a bit too much of a good thing.

Today’s motivational nudge is: Take that time to pause and re-evaluate this week. Pare down all the information coming at you from different sources and make the time this week to intentionally curate what you read, watch and listen to.

What are some of your strategies for preventing that overload of information?

Have a great week!

  1. You bring up a really good point here. I regularly assess the emails landing in my inbox and unsubscribe to those that donโ€™t bring value to my life. Early in my blogging days, I followed so many bloggers. These days, I tend to only follow those whose message resonates with me.

  2. I love your timely reminder. My intent is to consume little but to give a lot. Holding this idea simplifies my life because I am giving information and help primarily, not trying to get information or help.
