My interpretation of self care has often involved thinking of a check list of things I need to do:
- Vitamins – check
- Hydration – check
- Exercise – check
- Good nutrition – check
- Get some sunshine – check
When I gaze at this continually expanding yet very well meaning list, it can be overwhelming at times and the antithesis of the true idea of self care if I’m just powering through without listening to what I actually need in a given moment.

I think a list like the one above is good to have as something to keep in mind for a healthy day but the more intuitive question of “what do I truly need right now that will empower, nurture and nourish?” also needs focused attention on a daily basis.
An answer to the question posed above could be as simple as getting extra sleep or as challenging as the need to start a brand new creative project that is fulfilling or even to have a difficult conversation with someone to express how you feel.
If we can pinpoint our true inner priorities and needs, the idea of self care can be purposeful and aligned with what is meaningful and what energizes and motivates rather than adding to that “need to do” overwhelm.
Today’s motivational nudge is: Figure out your own authentic definition of self care – something that works for you and is uplifting and elevating every time you go to your uniquely self-empowering check list..

Have a truly joyful day!
I have the same list, but I agree we need to find something uplifting as well.

It’s a good list :)..I feel thinking about the additional piece helps as well. Hope you’re feeling better!

I like your list, it’s a good one and I have to say I don’t have one that I use. I tend to take care of everyone else including all my furry family members first and then I squeeze in myself which probably isn’t the best. When I feel myself being pulled too much one way or another then I know I need some time for myself for self care. I do sink myself into my crafts and my blogging which at least helps me relax and connect with myself. I’m not sure if this makes sense, but since I’m so busy I think this is how I enjoy all that I have and all the fun things I fit into my day before work! Lol 😁 I enjoyed your post, and it makes you reflect and think about self care! ❤️
