Why clarifying your goals is so important

Having goals and a plan to accomplish them can be liberating. If the goal is aligned with your aspirations and authentic self, you can have a wholly different feeling of purpose and joy when working toward accomplishing it.

We live in a world where all the distractions can keep adding up. Sometimes, instead of focusing on living intentionally and accomplishing our aspirations, we end up being pulled in a 20 different directions – none of which take us to where we want to go. If we keep caving in to these distractions, then what truly matters to us will never get the attention it deserves.

This is where specific intentional daily and big picture goals can come to the rescue. Setting both a clear big picture goal and a specific goal for the day that helps you move toward the big picture goal can bring the clarity and peace you need while you strive for what is important to you.

I wish I could say that it is easy to let go of the distractions, but for me, at least, it truly isn’t – I think we just have to decide to step away from them on a daily basis. If you are crystal clear about your immediate goal you can keep taking one step toward it and then the next. You can create a map for where to go even if you veer off for a little while every so often.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed in this moment, just focus on that – the one big picture goal, the one task that will move you toward accomplishing it, the one important thing to get done today. Finish that one thing. Check off the box on your to-do list. Then go to the next thing.

If you get pulled away by a distraction – give yourself a grace, understanding and a little pep talk and then pick back up where you left off. Keep setting goals that are right for you and building on those little (and big!) successes.
